What is the
compressor doing?
These are the most common reasons people call us, and what we check for each. The same symptom can have different causes, so we confirm before we fix.
Tell us what it’s doing
- Overheating or shutting down hot
- Oil level and condition, coolers, fans, room temperature and ventilation.
- Low pressure or won’t load
- Inlet valve and loading controls, pressure settings, clogged filters or separator, and pressure lost in the piping.
- Oil leaks or oil in the air lines
- Hoses, fittings, seals, the separator element and the oil return line.
- Won’t start, keeps tripping, or shows a fault code
- The controller, motor starter, overloads and wiring, and what’s happening when it trips.
- Unusual noise or vibration
- Belts, couplings, mounts, bearings and the airend.
- Water in the air lines or dryer problems
- The dryer, the air going into it, filters and drains. More on fixing water in the lines.
Shut down and lock out the compressor the way the manufacturer says before you look inside. If it keeps tripping, stop resetting it and call us.
